3 Simple Ways to Make Exercising a Habit

By Alex Allmert
If you are looking to get fit, there are three simple ways to make exercising a habit. You can start by having a reason to work out. Knowing your end results and understanding your goals are both great ways to begin a new regime. Having someone to keep you motivated and hold you accountable is also a good idea. In addition to these tricks to make exercising a habit, you could also add exercises to your regimen that you can take out of the gym. These three simple tips can make exercising more effective for you as well as a daily or at least a three time a week habit.
Have a "Why"!

The first way to make exercising a habit is to have a reason. Understand your goals and know what you want your results to be. If you want to be a muscle bound male, then hang some pictures of big guys that you want to model your physique after. If you are a woman trying to lose weight, put up the pictures of the clothes that you could be able to wear in a year when you reach your weight loss goal. Visualizing your goals can help you know exactly what you have to do, and motivate you to do it. Make a list of reasons why you would want to exercise and then make a list of things that will happen if you don't - this alone can be all the reasons that you need to take care of your body and make exercising a habit.

Have a "Friend" hold you accountable

Another good tip is to make someone hold you accountable. Having someone religiously drive you to the gym or having a partner to go jogging with is a good thing. If you can't find someone to work out with, have someone that you know will force you to do what you're supposed to be doing. Even if having someone pushing you to work out is annoying, getting a few encouraging words from a friend is still a great way to stay motivated. If you can't get your friends to help you, try getting someone from the gym to help you or you could even hire a coach to guide you along. This is a great way to continue your good habit of exercising.

Do It Outside

To make exercising a habit shouldn't be hard, but it can be, because going to the gym a few times a week can be pretty boring. Why not shake up the routine? Take yourself out of the gym and go do something else once a week instead. Try running once a week or training with simple exercises like push ups or sit ups with weights instead of completing your regime at the gym. This will break up monotony and keep you fresh in your routine. Plus, this keeps you from making excuses to not exercise when the gym is closed.

Making exercising a habit is a good way to start a new life for yourself. There is plenty of motivation out there if you just try, and getting someone to help you will lead you to habitual exercise. When you make your goals, keep your ideal body in mind and start out slowly so that you don't over do it. If all else fails, take your exercise regimen outside and start again. Either way, don't give up and use these three simple tips to make exercising a habit.
