Life Changing Weight Loss For Teens

By Shalisha Alston
Weight loss for Christian teens is what we sorely need. We live in a society that believes everything can be cured just by taking a pill. If you look in any household medicine cabinet, you are sure to find pills to cure headaches, heal infections, help you sleep and lose weight. Just pop a pill and you don't have to worry about anything, like losing weight during menopause, because the pill will do all the work.

That works great in theory, but theories often have a bad habit of turning around and biting you with the truth. What really happens in our society when people rely on drugs to stay healthy is lose sight of the fact they often have control over their health without taking pills. Take weight loss for example.

The fad diet market is exploding with hundreds of diets that include magic pills. They use fancy terms for what are simple herbs and organic compounds and may slip in a few chemical names while claiming they won't harm you. You can lose weight after pregnancy or drop lots of weight before your wedding just by taking the magic pills.

Grace Slick and the band Jefferson Airplane said it best when they sang the song "White Rabbit": "One pill makes you larger, one pill makes you small, and the ones that mother gives you, don't do anything at all..." So you want to lose weight? Take a weight loss pill. Rapid diet weight loss programs that are fads promise to make you look great in a few days. Of course, they forget to tell you the most important thing. You'll look great for a short while because you can't stick with the diet forever.

Chasing Rabbits

The song continues: "And if you go chasing rabbits and you know you're going to fall, tell them a hookah smoking caterpillar, has given you the call, Recall Alice, when she was just small." Alice in the song took a pill and got small. Are you chasing rabbits by taking a weight loss pill? Rapid diet promises have you falling down rabbit holes of weight loss? Were you once small like Alice, but now are more like the fat and sassy Cheshire Cat?

Believing you can lose weight by popping a few pills just doesn't make sense. A pill cannot change your eating habits or make you exercise more. It won't stop you from eating fast food or that big bowl of ice cream right before bed time. It can't count calories or keep your heart healthy. You can't just pop a weight loss pill. Rapid diet programs that are fads are not healthy and they don't last.

Logic and Proportion

What Alice found after she fell down the rabbit hole was "logic and proportion, have fallen sloppy dead..." That's because life's problems are not solved with drugs of any kind. Sure, you can lose weight taking a weight loss pill. Rapid diet programs will work...for a while. But both solutions are unhealthy and temporary.

So when does logic and proportion finally make an appearance in our society? It starts when people finally start listening to the doctors and researchers that have proven a healthy diet and exercise are the answers to weight loss. That doesn't mean you have to eat rabbit food and then pound the pavement running like an athlete. It does mean you want to learn to eat the foods you like in the right proportions and quantities while increasing your activity level.

You can fall down a deep rabbit hole with a weight loss pill. Rapid diet programs can only be followed for a short period of time. The result is weight loss is temporary. So you fall further down the hole and seek another fad diet looking for a way out of the tunnel.

And so it goes....

Logic says to eat healthy. Meals should be proportional and related to your goals and calorie burning level. You have to set weight loss goals, increase your metabolism, eat balanced meals and start moderate exercise. Then you can grow quite small just like Alice...but without the weight loss pill. Rapid diet programs that do work are really not "programs". They are simply methods for taking control of your own health by choosing the right foods in the right quantities.
